2008 Hay is Here We are confident our quality in 2008 hay will be significantly better this year since we have not encountered a hard freeze as we did in 2007. The biggest problem we are facing is that alfalfa is having a difficult time competing with all the other cash crops, which has resulted in hay acres being lost to corn, beans, and wheat. With that said, the historical prices of hay dropping to a maximum of $40 per ton from last winter are less likely to happen in 2008. Please keep in mind, hay purchased from May-October is the most inexpensive time to invest in your hay needs. The best way to overcome the high cost of feed is to look at your cost per cow, per day and and compare the protein and energy levels in other ingredients to alfalfa hay. When you compare all other ingredients, Quality Alfalfa will be your most cost-effective source of protein and energy on a per cow basis. As always, we pride our business in our quality control of the hay and our service to deliver what you need. Please call and let us know what we can do to serve you and your operation.
